Aarhus Amtssygehus II, The bed ward

Transforming an iconic hospital into an attractive district

Towards 2025, the old bed ward of the County Hospital in Aarhus will be transformed and developed into a new residential, urban area. Two new residential buildings will supplement the iconic building and become a new green district for 434 new homes.

From hospital to urban area

The housing project will consist of a varied selection of housing types and sizes for both young and elderly. The aim is to create an inclusive and diverse community.

The outdoor spaces are open and green. Courtyards and living areas should increase biodiversity, but also appear as a natural meeting place for the area's residents.

Architectural heritage

With references to Høgh-Hansen's design of the classis bed ward, the architectural expression will bring the area’s history into a modern feel. Reinterpretation and tradition will melt together and be transformed into an urban quarter.

The red brick is a consistent element that preserves the traditional design and connects the rest of the building.
