Stavanger Town Hall

Smart buildings with a historic buzz

The town hall in Stavanger is worthy of conservation and an extensive renovation and rebuilding of the town hall is underway. The building will be given new life, adapted to the environment, people and technology.

Stavanger Municipality has set ambitious climate targets and, in order to contribute to these, the building will be of passive house standard with an energy rating of A, BREEAM-NOR certification and Smartbygg solutions. Solar cell systems will be installed both on façades and on the roof. Key to the development of the building is user-adapted functionality. With modern solutions, the municipality wants to create Norway’s most advanced smart building.

The soul of the town hall has to be reflected in the choice of materials in the building. The exterior and interior are designed to highlight and play off each other. With respect for the existing construction, LINK has attempted to capture the essence of the building by safeguarding its characteristic features, while showing a way into the future. In this way, the population of Stavanger are able to experience a journey back in time with the evident interior references to the 1960s, but with the use of modern materials.
